What is Lathe Slitting?
Lathe Slitting—also known as log slitting—is a converting process where a master roll (log) of material is mounted onto a rotating mandrel and then cut to size using a circular blade. Instead of unrolling and rewinding like in traditional slitting methods, the blade slices through the material as the log rotates in place, similar to turning on a lathe. This approach is ideal for:
- Narrow-width requirements
- Soft, compressible, or layered materials
- High edge quality with minimal deformation
- Efficient small to medium production runs
